Roots Among the Rocks

This past weekend, I wandered through the Lost River Gorge in New Hampshire. Among the boulders and rushing water, I noticed trees growing in unexpected places. Their roots twisted and curved over stone, slipping into every crack, clinging to the smallest patches of soil they could find. The ground was harsh, the terrain uneven, and yet they adapted, shaping themselves to the world around them.

It reminded me of how life can feel for all of us. The path can be cluttered with obstacles, the footing uncertain, and the weight of challenges heavy. And yet, even in these conditions, growth can happen. Strength and resilience may not look like thriving—they can look like quietly bending without breaking, seeking nourishment wherever it exists, and stretching toward light, one small step at a time.

In moments like these, we can discover the strength we didn’t know we had. Like the trees, we can adapt, steady ourselves, and continue moving forward, even when the terrain feels impossible.

At Verge, therapy can be part of that light. It offers a place to pause, to find steadiness, and to receive guidance and support as you navigate rocky terrain. Just as trees rely on both roots and sunlight, you can lean on care, connection, and community. You don’t have to face life’s challenges alone—there is support to help you keep growing, even in unexpected places.
